Why I want to home school my child

My friend was just chatting with me and came up with the following statement:

I almost blew a gasket last week when [my son's] English teacher sent home an assignment;  interview your parents or grandparents about the great depression and what they remember from it...

Now, I am no history major, but it did not take me long to figure out that this assignment is impossible for most of America's children.

Worse, who wants to learn from an English teacher who has no idea that the Great Depression was so long ago that his/her student's parents AND grandparents were probably not alive for it.

Sheesh.

And that is why our children aren't learning the important things in school. In most cases, those students would have to have no less than great grandparents still living. My calculations tell me that if the depression ended in the mid 30s the people who could remember much about it would have to be near 90 years old. If the students have relatives that old they are extremely lucky, but my bet is that 85% if them can't complete this assignment. Just goes to show that our educators have no common sense. The English teacher probably used her 'new math' skills and came up with an age of about 60. Glad I was educated long ago prior to new math and global warming! Did I mention that the average monthly temperatures in Medford are down 1.5 degrees per month average compared to last year?

A History assignment in English class...
    That's Double Jeopardy, it's unconstitutional.
